It's true. I know this first hand. See, we took a very long break from gigging this year: from January to August, during which time we did many awesome things, but playing in the band was not one for them.

But just a few weeks ago, we had our first show in many months. And there is still nothing quite like playing songs with the people you like playing songs with the most: your band.

Playing songs in front of an audience—performing, i guess is what it's called—requires you to give yourself completely to the present moment. While this level of mindfulness is definitely my goal in all parts of my life, it's safe to say that at this point, the only time i am this present in the moment is when i'm playing with the band. I am completely focused on what i am doing, on listening intently to what heather, josh, and ellen are doing. If my mind wanders or if i become self conscious, i lose the trance.

Or: Playing in a band is like time traveling in the Now with people you like.

OK. this is a ramble for sure, but you know what? I'm done. I've made my first real blog post on the new Tin Bird web page.

Thank you to the good people at John Hall Design for making it happen. If it hadn't been for The daily show's being a rerun tonight, none of this free-form mindspill would have been possible. good night.
